Our development squad end this weekend’s action with a home game in Premier League 2 against Blackburn Rovers on Sunday afternoon. Kick-off for the game is scheduled for 12 noon and there will be a live stream available….

The form

Andy Myers and his side will be relieved to have halted their three-game losing streak with a gutsy 4-3 comeback win against Liverpool last time out after being 3-1 down.

The aim will be to build on that result against a Blackburn side who are yet to taste victory this season in the PL2 competition.

Harvey Vale will be looking to add to his goal tally of five goals as he is the top scorer for the development squad. However, there are several players who will be looking to build on the solid performance in the previous match.

Myers’ men can now draw inspiration from their comeback against Liverpool and look to use that to put in a positive display this weekend.

Previous meetings

The last time these two teams met was in the 2020/21 season and Chelsea were victorious as they secured a 1-0 win against the Lancashire-based side at Kingsmeadow. George Nunn was on the scoresheet in that one.

In fact, the last time our development squad failed to beat Blackburn was in the 2018/19 season and on that occasion it was also a 1-0 scoreline as Joe Nuttall converted from the penalty spot.

The opposition

Blackburn currently sit in 12th place with 4 points, one spot below Chelsea, having played 6 games. Blackburn are also the team this season who have failed to win a game this season.

However, coach Andy Myers will be wary of the fact that they are not a team that struggles for goals as they have found the net 13 times this season to Chelsea’s ten.
