Our development squad ended the year in style as Jude Soonsup-Bell, Charlie Webster and Malik Mothersille were the scorers in a comfortable victory over our London rivals.

The first period passed by without too many major incidents, however both sides had a claim to be ahead in the clash.

Tottenham's Alfie Devine slalomed his way past a number of challenges and just put the ball wide with Eddie Beach beaten.

At the other end, there were a few half-chances as we got close to the Spurs goal without testing the goalkeeper frequently. Charlie Webster had our best chance as he found space down the left and smashed towards goal and an outstretched leg from the keeper diverted the ball onto the post.

Jude Soonsup-Bell and Leo Castledine had efforts which had power behind them, but Josh Keeley stood strong.

Rankine in the second half had a first-time volley which was kept out well by Keeley.

We took the lead just before the hour mark however, and it was Soonsup-Bell who scored as he smashed an effort past the Spurs keeper after good work from Rankine.

We did not have it all our own way. Jamie Donley had his side’s biggest opportunity in the second half as his first touch as a substitute was a clear sight of goal with only Beach to beat but he put the ball wide.

Webster doubled our lead though as he struck from just outside the box to give us our second.

The third came through second-half substitute Malik Mothersille as he finished nicely with his left foot.

Searching for the opener

The game started with our young Blues combining well and getting close to the Spurs box but we were failing to find the final pass.

An away side who are yet to register a win this season in the PL2 were made to look nervous in the beginning, but they slowly eased back into the game.

They began to find their feet and the dangerous Devine was central to that as he dribbled past a few players to find himself in the box, but he failed to find the target.

We were next to threaten as Rankine put in two fine deliveries which went close to finding the head of Cesare Casadei, but Spurs found a way to clear.

The half ended as it started with our young Blues in control and Webster on two occasions in the same position almost scored. The first, a cross which was diverted goalwards by a Spurs defender, was saved well by Keeley. The second was a shot from an identical position which Keeley saved onto the post.

Deadlock broken

We almost got off to a perfect start in the second half as a Williams cross found Rankine at the back post but his volley was saved incredibly by Keeley who used his feet to stop the effort.

We were piling on the pressure and after an unforced error that gave us a corner, Gilchrist had a chance in the box after Casadei’s knockdown but the captain on the day was off balance which meant his shot flew wide.

The goal eventually came, and Rankine was involved as he laid the ball off into the path of Soonsup-Bell who fired past Keeley to give us the lead.

Further gloss

We briefly lost concentration from a break in play and substitute Donley’s first touch was a clear-cut chance which he should have scored but he put wide of Beach’s goal.

That moment of nervousness was brief, and Webster got onto the scoresheet as he picked up the ball from the edge of the box and powered a left-foot shot past the goalkeeper to double our lead.

Donley had another chance to halve the deficit for his side, but Beach made a fantastic save with his right boot.

He set in motion a fast break and Casadei who seemed to be all alone wriggled his way past two challenges and fed the pacy Mothersille who made no mistake slotting beyond the keeper.

That was how the game would end and Mark Robinson’s men climb up the table into the top four momentarily with others yet to play. This is also two wins in the last three as well as ending the year on a nine-game unbeaten run in the PL2.
