Chelsea Under-21s head coach Mark Robinson has picked out a young forward for praise after making the step up from our Under-18s, but warned against complacency following the 4-1 win over Dinamo Zagreb in the Premier League International Cup.

Chelsea Under-21s defeated Dinamo Zagreb 4-1 in our second Group B fixture of this season's Premier League International Cup yesterday. Billy Gee, Ronnie Stutter, Tyrique George and an own goal gave us victory, while the Croatian side scored one goal which did not mean much in the grand scheme of things.

Under-21s head coach Mark Robinson was pleased with how clinical his side were in their latest fixture, but wants to ensure that complacency does not creep in, as the Blues shift attention to other competitions.

'I was pleased that the lads got the win as it would be a really good competition to progress in, giving some of the younger players a different experience. I was not pleased we conceded and how the first 15 minutes of the second half went.

'We spoke about there being a reaction from them, as following our first-half performance, we were in complete control. We rode our luck a bit at the beginning of the second half, after an impressive first half. We did gain more control again and created a lot of chances, but the game become far too transitional.'

There were plenty of positives in the game, though, and one player in particular who stood out is Tyrique George, who will be in contention to make the England Under-17 World Cup squad. The winger, who played as an attacking midfielder yesterday, registered a goal and an assist, adding to his great strike for the Under-18s against Tottenham on Saturday.

'I was really pleased with Tyrique's performance on Tuesday and he has done well when he has stepped up to the Under-21s. He finds space very well and is very creative, whilst also scoring goals. He needs to improve his discipline off the ball, but he knows that and is a willing learner. That is the most important thing.'

A big part of last night's scoring spree could be attributed to the use of two strikers, which has been adopted at times this season by Robinson.

'We have great forwards across the Academy this season and, as we are a development squad, you look at the players at your disposal and do everything to play a formation that can develop the players but also be competitive.'

He continued: 'We are fairly pleased with how it has gone, but there always has to be that reality that if the players do not do enough to make the relationships work within that formation, and win games, then you change it.

'This does mean that players then fight for single positions, like they will have to in the next stage of their career. That balance is important.'

Our young Blues play their third game in seven days on Friday 3 November as the Under-21s are back in Premier League 2 action, welcoming Fulham to Kingsmeadow for a 7pm kick-off.
