Mauricio Pochettino was pleased with the way his team took the game to Arsenal for the majority of Saturday's match and feels we will learn from the errors we made in the final 15 minutes to manage games more effectively in future.

Chelsea showed we could match one of the Premier League’s current form sides by taking a 2-0 lead against Arsenal, undefeated in the competition this season and joint-top of the table, thanks to Cole Palmer and Mykhailo Mudryk both scoring their first Blues goals at Stamford Bridge.

Although we couldn’t hold on for the win, with a late Gunners fightback meaning we had to settle for a 2-2 draw, Mauricio Pochettino felt the way we were able to compete, and for long periods best, one of the country’s top teams can only be taken as a good sign for our progress this season.

'We were facing a team that last season was really close to winning the Premier League. Then they invested and added players to make their squad stronger. They are a very good team,’ said Pochettino

‘We are maybe at the beginning of our project and that is why we have to take positive things. I think we competed really well and after 77 minutes of the game, we had been better and hadn’t conceded too many chances. That is credit to the team and we need to only go forward in a positive way.'

However, that desire to take the positives from the game doesn’t blind our head coach to the work that needs to be done. After seeing his side concede twice in the space of seven minutes to lose what at one point had seemed a relatively comfortable lead, he highlighted our game management and decision making as areas for improvement.

‘One thing for us is to maybe read the situation better. At 2-0 in the 77th minute, maybe take a better decision in this situation to not concede in the way we did. That damaged the momentum a little bit and gave the belief to the opponent to say: “go on, it’s possible, it’s only one goal”.

‘That is the situation but we will improve all together, to work together, to live together. For sure, the team has the talent to improve in this side of football that you sometimes need to show in this type of game to win.’

Pochettino also discussed Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo, confirming the midfield duo were not in peak shape for Saturday’s match following their long trips across the Atlantic to represent Argentina and Ecuador respectively over the international break.

‘Enzo and Caicedo arrived after two games in South America and they were not fresh, but they are important players for us. We have one week to work and they are going to be better and the team is going to improve. It’s really tough to arrive jet lagged and everything, so hopefully after one week they can recover and train and be at their best for the next game.’
