Mauricio Pochettino says his Chelsea players must be ready to match Luton Town's 'desire and fight' when the two sides meet in the Premier League at Kenilworth Road tomorrow.

The Hatters, who are embarking on their first Premier League campaign following promotion last season, have won their previous two matches and have proven particularly stubborn opponents on home soil.

Rob Edwards's side lost narrowly to Manchester City and Arsenal – after leading in both games – and were only denied a famous victory over Liverpool in stoppage time.

Pochettino is looking forward to the challenge that awaits his players in Bedfordshire – and a first Premier League visit to Luton’s 118-year-old ground.

‘I am an old man, I am a romantic, I love the football of the past,’ he said.

‘This type of stadium makes you remember when you started to play, stadiums that smell different. They are not luxurious in the way we recognise luxury today, but you love being there. It is history. It is different. You feel the real football.

‘I am happy to go to play there because it’s going to be good for our young team, a good experience.

'Luton are a team that loves to fight, that works really hard. If you watch the last few games in their stadium, it was tough for all the opponents.

'If we want to get a good result, we need to be ready to play our football but first we need to match their desire and their capacity to fight for every single ball. It will be a good test for us.'

Pochettino added: 'We have struggled a little bit with teams like Luton. So it is a good challenge. I am happy to go to play there because it’ll be a good experience for our young team.

'If we want to win, we need to fight, be clever, and be focused. Then we can play our football in the way we know.'
