Mauricio Pochettino was pleased with many of the things his team did against Nottingham Forest, but was left disappointed after some wasteful finishing at one end and a single error at the other cost us the points.

We controlled possession for much of the game as we hosted Nottingham Forest in the Premier League, but the outcome didn't follow the same pattern after we failed to convert our chances into goals, while the visitors punished an error in midfield to catch us on the break and score to make the final result a 1-0 defeat for the Blues.

Speaking to the media after the game, Pochettino admitted he was disappointed by the scoreline at the end, knowing we need to be more ruthless in the key moments at both ends of the pitch to start picking up the points he knows our performances deserve.

'Today we created chances, we dominated the game but in the end we were not clinical enough in the last third,' he said. 'We should have scored and we need to if we want to win, then we made one mistake and we conceded a goal.

'I am disappointed but not frustrated, because in this type of process obviously you need some luck in some situations. I don’t want to take credit away from Nottingham Forest because they knew how they should play.

'But we were not clinical in both halves. We made a mistake and we conceded and then you create many opportunities and we dominate, but it wasn’t perfect. We didn’t score and when you don’t score it is difficult to win games.

'The opening was positive, in the way that in the first 45 minutes we didn’t concede any chances, apart from one corner and one free-kick. And after they didn’t create too many things. But we need to be more clinical and more efficient to score goals and to win the game'

Pochettino feels games like this will help his young team learn and gain experience...

'This type of game will help us to be mature and to feel the competition. It’s not only to have quality, after that it is about being ready to compete in a different way.

'I think of course that we were better, we cannot say that we didn’t deserve more, but in football sometimes the stats can reflect what you do, but in this case we created but we did not score, we only did a few shots on targets. We should shoot more.

'But that is about the process and in the team when you are building something it can be up and down. We were unlucky because I think we deserved more at West Ham and today, but we didn’t get a point. But we keep going, keep positive and it’s a process and I think it’s only a matter of time.

'In the process when you are building a team, in an offensive situation in a game like today, in the intensity you can make rash decisions and rush chances sometimes when you need to be more relaxed and more calm. But in the process it can happen and we need to stay calm and work really hard to improve and I think this type of thing will improve us.'

As more players return to fitness and new signings become settled, the added options should also improve the team...

'We are picking the team that we believe is going to be more competitive, with a good balance in the team in the way that we want to play.

'The more options you have the better to increase the level, the competition between them, and of course the possibility to play with different players with different characteristics.'
