After scoring his first goal of the season, Christian Pulisic spoke of his delight at not only opening his account for 2022/23 but also playing his part in another impressive Chelsea performance.
Pulisic put us 2-0 up against Wolves with a crafty finish beyond Jose Sa, deftly lifting the ball over the visiting goalkeeper as the angle narrowed.
The American captain had gone close on a couple of occasions in the first half, too, but understandably it was his goal that brought him extra satisfaction after a good day’s work all round.
‘It was very nice!,’ smiled Pulisic.
‘I wasn’t sure if Mason would get that pass through but he slipped it through. It was a tough angle so it was a nice finish and I’m really happy to get that goal.
‘We started really strong and controlled a lot of the game,’ Christian continued.
‘They put up a fight at the start of the second half and I thought it was difficult, but we defended really well which we are happy with. It’s another clean sheet and a great result.
‘We look really strong in attack but also a couple of clean sheets are really important for us. I like the way the team is working at the moment, and it’s just about finding some consistency and keeping going.’
Pulisic was one of seven changes Graham Potter made to the team that started the 3-0 win against AC Milan on Wednesday, and the winger believes the competition for places in the Chelsea squad is bringing the best out of everyone.
‘We have a very strong team with amazing depth, guys that can come in and do a great job. We have players that work hard and push each other in training every day.
‘That can only help the team and I think you saw that against Wolves.’
