Chelsea attacking duo Guro Reiten and Sam Kerr have both been nominated for the Women’s Super League Player of the Season award.
Chelsea are on track to being crowned WSL champions for the fourth successive season, with two wins needed in our remaining two fixtures to acclaim the league’s record points tally of 58.
Reiten and Kerr have been key to our title charge, with the latter starting 17 of our 20 games thus far (the most in the Chelsea ranks). Guro follows closely with 16 starts to her name, while they have both made 19 appearances each, one ahead of captain Magda Eriksson (18).
In truth, Kerr’s return of 10 goals so far has fallen below her exceptionally high standards, but the goals she has netted to this date have been of huge importance.
When we won at title rivals Manchester United, Sam registered a goal and an assist, before netting the winning goal in a crucial home victory over Marc Skinner’s side in March. Kerr also scored a late equaliser against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium.
Reiten, on the other hand, is leading the way domestically for assists. She has 10 to ner name this season, four of which coming in Chelsea’s 8-0 victory over Leicester City at the King Power Stadium. Guro also netted one of her seven goals in the East Midlands as she had a hand in all five first-half goals.
The Norwegian’s key asset to this team, above all, has been her remarkable consistency, having a scoring involvement in 11 of the 19 games she has played in the Barclays WSL this term.
The other contenders for the award are: Ona Batlle (Manchester United), Leah Galton (Manchester United), Kirsty Hanson (Aston Villa), Rachel Daly (Aston Villa), Frida Maanum (Arsenal) and Khadija Shaw (Manchester City).
