Guro Reiten is revelling in being part of an attack-minded Blues side that has scored 20 goals in only five Women’s Super League games this season.

We return to Merseyside this afternoon to face Liverpool in St Helens following last weekend’s emphatic 5-0 win against Everton at Goodison Park.

That display maintained our impeccable start to the WSL season with five league victories from five – the first time a Chelsea side has achieved such a feat.

And it’s not only results that have given cause to be impressed. Thirteen different players have been on the scoresheet for the Blues thus far in the WSL, including Reiten who has netted three times and recently surpassed 50 goals for the club.

‘We want to be ruthless in front of goal because sometimes you might only get one or two chances and you need to score,’ the Norway international explained. ‘On the other end of the pitch, we want to defend our box for our lives.

‘We’ve been good in both boxes and we have still been working on everything that is happening in between. You can see the progress. It’s so good to play in this team. It says something about the quality and the depth that we have in our squad right now. We have so many goal scorers and so many who have stepped up when they’re needed.’

Attention to the details highlighted by head coach Bompastor and her staff, Reiten believes, have helped her and her team-mates excel across the pitch this term.

‘The mood in the group is really good,’ Reiten added. ‘It has been flawless with our results, but at the same time, we know we’ve only played five games. There is a long way to go towards the end of the season and we’ve still got so many games against so many good teams to play.

‘We’ve never had a start like this. Sonia has been demanding a lot from us. She wants us to win and we want to win.

‘The standards are so high. Every pass, every touch, every moment you do on the pitch should be sharp and we should be able to keep the ball no matter what.

‘Sonia is good on the details. For example, sometimes it’s not about the pass but about the one receiving it. She wants to get to the bottom of the problem of the small things in training and every day she demands us to be at our best.’

Reiten has been a standout performer for the Blues so far this season. And with her goal contributions to show for it, our No.11 is happy to be deployed wherever she is needed to help the team.

‘I’ve been playing in a bit of a different position and last game playing more left again,’ Reiten said. ‘Whatever Sonia wants me to do, I’ll do it.

‘The mix of me being more in the pocket, more central and then out wide has been quite good so far. She just wants us to keep possession and to be an option for each other, so that can mean you’ve got to move off each other and change position to mix it up.

‘I love playing football and I love playing for this club. I’m just trying to be better every day. We’ve had new players coming in and you have to build a relationship with them and understand how we get the best out of each other. We work on that every day and we’re seeing the improvements.’
