Guro Reiten says Chelsea Women cannot take anything for granted when we return to Women’s Super League action against West Ham United tonight.

Fresh from securing our third consecutive FA Cup at Wembley on Sunday, the Blues are back in league action with a trip to West Ham where victory would see us move two points clear at the top of the table with as many games remaining.

Our match against the Hammers, which kicks off at 8.15pm and is live on Sky Sports, acts as our game in-hand on leaders Manchester United, and Reiten has spoken about the importance of experience, professionalism and taking advantage in key moments in our bid to retain the title.

It has been an influential season for the Norwegian who has earned plaudits for her contributions from all corners. Most recently, she scored the opening goal in our previous two league matches against Everton and Leicester respectively.

With a short turnaround between our fifth FA Cup triumph and the clash with West Ham, Reiten described the challenges this brings but is adamant that everyone is prepared to go again in the quest for another trophy.

‘It’s tougher than people think. It’s the FA Cup and especially for the English players, you know what that means. You want to celebrate, it’s a big achievement for everyone at Chelsea, but we don’t have time to celebrate. We have three days until the next game. We spent two hours with our families then we go home to sleep, up the next day to recover, come in for a session and then a new game.

‘It’s mentally tough, we want to lift trophies and when we do we want to enjoy the moment, but you barely have time to because we have to refocus again. We know how important every single game is going to be for the rest of the season and we want to lift another trophy. It’s a tough one but we are a very professional group of players and staff and we’re ready to go again.’

Sam Kerr’s second-half strike was the deciding factor in the FA Cup final. Reiten talked about the importance of capitalising on these key moments, and knows we will have to raise our performance levels to get a result this evening.

‘Every game is going to be different. We’ve known for a while that for us to win the league, we have to be perfect. It doesn’t mean we’re going to play perfect football all the time, but we have to find that moment we need to score a goal, sometimes that’s enough.

‘West Ham are a tough opponent, it’s the English league and every opponent is good. We have to be at our best if we want to win. It’s going to be an interesting game, we can’t take anything for granted. We have to go for it.’

Aspirations to retain our WSL title are clear and while maturity and professionalism will be vital to achieving our targets for the remainder of the season, Reiten believes it's important to make sure we enjoy ourselves on the pitch.

‘We have the experience, we’ve done it before, we have players that have played in big games and who under pressure, almost play better. It’s also about enjoying the moment. It’s tough to play football if it doesn’t mean anything and for us, it means the world.

‘You need to enjoy it and have fun, that’s when we are best and hopefully after three games we’re going to lift that trophy again.’
