Emma Hayes’ side will be looking to win the FA Cup for the second consecutive year after beating Arsenal 3-0 in the 2021 final.

Both clubs are three-time winners of the prestigious trophy and will be looking to add a fourth to their ranks.

This year, the Blues have nudged past Aston Villa, Leicester City, Birmingham City and Arsenal on our way to the final and here we recap our journey so far…

Aston Villa 1-3 Chelsea

Our 2021/22 Women’s FA Cup journey begun with a trip to the Banks’s Stadium to take on Carla Ward’s Aston Villa side. The Blues got our trophy defence off to a flying start by defeating Villa 3-1 back in January.

A brace from Guro Reiten and a Pernille Harder penalty wrapped up a comfortable win on the road for Hayes’ side.

Chelsea 7-0 Leicester City

The Blues were back at home for the fifth round as we hosted Leicester City at Kingsmeadow. Hayes’ side ran out winners in emphatic fashion after putting seven past Lydia Bedford’s Foxes.

Aniek Nouwen scored her first goal for the Blues while Bethany England, Ji So-Yun, Sam Kerr and Harder were all on the scoresheet as we comfortably eased through to the quarter finals.

Chelsea 5-0 Birmingham City

The Blues faced yet another midlands team in the quarter-final, hosting Birmingham City at Kingsmeadow in March.

It was a welcomed return for club captain Magdalena Eriksson who had been out injured since December, our skipper nodded the Blues ahead on the stroke of half-time.

Drew Spence scored her 50th Chelsea goal shortly after the interval, while strikes from Niamh Charles and England ensured we were in the hat for the final four.

Arsenal 0-2 Chelsea

Chelsea came up against Arsenal in the semi-final, a repeat fixture of last year’s final showdown.

Hayes’ side made the short journey across London to a sold-out Meadow Park where we ran out 2-0 winners thanks to two spectacular second-half goals.

Reiten opened the scoring five minutes into the final 45 with a glorious curling effort, before Ji netted the Blues 100th goal of the campaign in style, with her powerful effort bouncing off the crossbar and into the back of the net to secure our spot at Wembley on Sunday.

Road to the final for City

Manchester City’s journey to the final saw them claim victories against Nottingham Forest, Manchester United, Everton and West Ham United.

City beat West Ham 4-1 away from home to book their spot at Wembley, with goals coming from Ellen White, Chloe Kelly and Lauren Hemp. It’s the first time Hayes’ side will face City in the FA Cup final.
