Robert Sanchez’s incredible injury-time fingertip stop to deny Jota Silva of Nottingham Forest has been named the Premier League’s best save in October.
The Chelsea goalkeeper has been crowned with the monthly award after being off competition from five other stoppers, including his opposite number from that day – Matz Sels.
He follows Chelsea team-mate, Nicolas Jackson, in landing a Premier League award in October, after the forward landed the Goal of the Month prize earlier today.
Chelsea and Forest played out a pulsating 1-1 draw at Stamford Bridge at the start of October with both goalkeepers making fine saves in stoppage time to ensure the points were shared.
The best of the bunch came from Sanchez, who miraculously kept out Jota Silva’s goal-bound header when it looked destined to nestle in the far corner with a fine hand to palm the ball behind for a corner to preserve a point.
That save was enough for our No.1 to earn the most votes across the Premier League’s channels and ensured he won the award ahead of Sels, Dean Henderson of Crystal Palace, Wolves stopper Jose Sa, Leicester City’s Mads Hermansen and Bournemouth’s Mark Travers.
Well deserved, Rob!
