The matchday programme for our game against Newcastle United features an exclusive interview with Romeo Lavia.

The Belgian midfielder endured a frustrating first season as a Blue, sitting out most of 2023/24 through injury, but he’s been back in action of late and was in the thick of it at Anfield last Sunday in only his second start as a Chelsea player.

‘That whole year, it’s not been how I was expecting it to be,’ said the 20-year-old, ‘but I’m just happy because, without thinking about it, I’ve been at the club for a year so I know more about the culture, I know more about my team-mates, I know about everyone at the club.

‘So I feel much better going onto the pitch now because I have this confidence that I have people I trust around me, people that I enjoy being with, and that all just makes it easier.’

Lavia also looks back at when he first came to this country after being spotted by Pep Guardiola, and his previous experience working under Enzo Maresca while in the academy at Manchester City.

In addition, the programme includes a heartfelt tribute penned by club historian Rick Glanvill to Frank Blunstone, one of our 1955 title winners who recently celebrated his 90th birthday and will be a special guest at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.

Frank’s impact at the club wasn’t just felt on the pitch, where he dazzled as a flying winger, he also played a big part in bringing through some of the finest young talents seen in west London during his time working in our youth set-up.

There’s also a brilliant first-person piece from former Chelsea and Newcastle striker Joe Allon, who talks about his work for the charity Dementia Matters and looks back at some of the incredible characters he encountered at both clubs. If you want to hear tales about Paul Gascoigne, Vinnie Jones and Dennis Wise, this is the feature for you.

On top of that, you can hear the latest from head coach Enzo Maresca, captain Reece James, columns from the Women’s and Academy set-ups, plus stats and facts from club statistician Paul Dutton.
