Academy striker Frankie Runham is eager to continue his progress and grow at his boyhood club after signing a new three-year contract earlier this month.

After a relaxing summer, Frankie Runham returned to Cobham for pre-season following a successful 2023/24 season filled with personal development and accomplishments. Those included winning the Under-17 Premier League Cup, securing the Under-18 Premier League southern title and scoring a goal on his Under-21s debut against Colchester United.

The 17-year-old - who recently signed a three-year contract with the Blues - is thrilled to continue his career with this club and looks ahead to the upcoming Premier League 2 campaign with preparations well under way at Cobham.

‘It's a dream come true,’ grinned Runham. ‘I have been at Chelsea since I was a young boy and extending my stay means everything to me.

‘On a deeper level, the club means a lot to me. I have spent my whole childhood growing up on the pitches at Cobham and I wouldn’t have changed it for the world. My life is here. Blue is in my blood!

‘Signing the contract was another milestone and a huge moment not just for me, but for my family. They are immensely proud and it’s great to see my hard work being noticed.’

After coming through our development centre programme he has climbed up the ranks, stepping up to the Under-21s squad under our new head coach Filipe Coelho. Runham continues to imagine what his future at the club could look like and what he hopes to achieve after extending his stay.

‘Signing a new contract gives me an opportunity to continue to improve and develop, which I will take with both hands. Being based here at Cobham, there is only a path that separates us and the senior team, and I hope to cross that boundary soon.

‘I want to become the best version of myself – on and off the pitch. I am driven and motivated to get even better, and I know I can grow here. Under-21s football is tough, but I know I can adapt to the pace and intensity. I am ready for the challenge.

‘My aim this season is to top my goals and assists from last season. During my time here, I have always contributed and given my all to each training session and fixture – I need to make sure I keep this up.’

The youngster also discussed his ambition and self-belief, which drives him to continue to advance as he hopes to develop similar footballing traits as one of his role models, who is particularly popular here at Chelsea.

‘I want to be the best goal scorer and show everyone what I am capable of and why I deserve to be at Chelsea. How I describe myself is a direct, fast-paced and intense attacker who loves making a difference and linking up throughout the pitch.

‘A player in particular who I am influenced by is Cole Palmer. We take on similar positions and he holds so much power on the pitch. I hope to take aspects of his performance and adapt it to mine.

‘I am nothing but excited to see how I progress and I am ready to continue to give my all while being at this club.’
