It was a busy evening for Chelsea players on the international stage as UEFA Women's Championship qualifiers were held across Europe.

With Wembley Stadium hosting tomorrow's Champions League final between Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund, England's Lionesses called St James' Park home for the evening as they continued their bid to seal a place at Euro 2025.

Chelsea skipper Millie Bright returned to the defence alongside clubmate Jess Carter while Hannah Hampton was introduced from the bench after just eight minutes due to goalkeeper Mary Earps suffering an injury.

England went ahead in the contest on the half-hour mark when Beth Mead finished from close range after good work from Lauren Hemp, and Hampton produced a fine stop minutes later to push wide a header from Maelle Lakrar

However, France levelled the contest before the interval when Elisa De Almeida struck – there was nothing Hampton could do to stop the looping volley – and in the second period Marie-Antoinette Katoto put the visitors ahead with a well-taken finish.

Blues legend Fran Kirby, who will leave the club at the end of this month, was introduced with eleven minutes remaining by Sarina Wiegman while Eve Perisset came on late into the contest to help France to victory. Aggie Beever-Jones was an unused substitute.

Elsewhere in League A Group 3, Chelsea trio Zecira Musovic, Nathalie Bjorn and Johanna Rytting Kaneryd all started for Sweden as they defeated Ireland 3-0.

Ireland had made a good start to the game in Dublin but Rytting Kaneryd broke the deadlock in the 26th minute after being teed up by Kosovare Asllani. From that point on, Sweden took control.

The visitors added a second just after the hour when Fridolina Rolfo curled home and Rytting Kaneryd pounced late on to complete her brace after Matilda Vinberg had seen an effort saved by goalkeeper Courtney Brosnan.

The victory coupled with England's defeat has moved Sweden up to second in the group after three matches. France lead the way with three wins from three games. There is work to do for the Lionesses.

It was a good night for Scotland and Erin Cuthbert at Hampden Park as a 4-1 victory over Isreal was sealed.

A first-half double from Claire Emslie and a Kirsty Hanson goal put Scotland in a commanding position at the interval, and Martha Thomas added a fourth from the penalty spot just after the hour.

Cuthbert was withdrawn with four minutes to play and the victory ensures Scotland lead League B Group B2.

Sophie Ingle's Wales also sit top of League B Group B4 after recording a 1-1 draw with Ukraine.

The Chelsea midfielder started once again for her country and completed the 90 minutes which saw Veronika Andrukhiv open the scoring early on but Kayleigh Green hit back from the penalty spot in the second period.

Meanwhile, Sjoeke Nusken started for Germany in their 4-1 victory over Poland. Natalia Padilla had put the visitors to Rostock ahead but an own goal from Wiktoria Zieniewicz ensured the game was tied at 1-1 at half time.

Nuksen was withdrawn at the interval as part of a triple change – and it eventually paid off as Germany netted three times in the final 13 minutes to claim all three points in League A Group A4

Blues winger Guro Reiten captained Norway to a 0-0 draw against Italy in League A Group A1. Maren Mjelde, who like Kirby will depart at the end of her contract this summer, was an unused substitute.
