Sam Kerr has been named on the fiver-player shortlist for the BBC Women’s Footballer of the Year award 2022 and you can cast your vote now.
The 2021/22 season ended on a high for the Blues forward, helping Chelsea to scoop a domestic Double, bringing home the FA Cup once more and being crowned champions of England by winning the Barclay’s Women’s Super League title for the third consecutive year.
The 29-year-old also claimed the Golden Boot for the second year in a row after scoring an impressive 20 goals in 20 league games, with Kerr waiting until the very last title-deciding match against Manchester United to produce the WSL’s Goal of the Season.
More personal accolades continued to follow, including being named Chelsea Women Player of the Year, PFA Players’ Player of the Year and FWA Women’s Footballer of the Year. Kerr also made history by becoming the first woman ever to feature on a FIFA video game cover, when she joined Kylian Mbappe on the front for FIFA 23.
The Matildas captain also shone at international level, becoming the top scorer at the 2022 Women’s Asian Cup, making her Australia’s all-time top scorer when she surpassed 50 goals for her country.
Supporters have until Wednesday 12 October to cast their vote for Kerr as the world's best women's player. The other nominees are Beth Mead (Arsenal/England), Alexandra Popp (Wolfsburg/Germany), Alexia Putellas (Barcelona/Spain) and Wendie Renard (Lyon/France), with the winner of the award announced on Wednesday 9 November.
