Chelsea Women’s Sam Kerr has been nominated for the Barclays FA Women’s Super League Goal of the Month award for December, scoring the fifth goal in our 8-0 victory over Leicester City in our first league match of the month.

It was a dominant and relentless display from the Blues who began December in fine fettle, scoring eight goals without reply on an afternoon of impressive individual displays, as well as a professional collective effort in the East Midlands.

Our fifth goal scored by Kerr on the stroke of half-time has been shortlisted for the WSL’s Goal of the Month award. It was a fluid and eye-catching transition from start to finish, which included an outrageous assist from Guro Reiten.

Kerr began the move, linking up nicely with Jessie Fleming who set Reiten away down the left. Our Norwegian winger carved open the Leicester defence with one sensational pass, which perfectly met the run of Kerr and the Australian buried the ball into the bottom corner with conviction.

This finish goes up against Leah Galton and Ona Batlle of Manchester United, Vivianne Miedema of Arsenal, Laura Coombs of Manchester City, Kirsty Hanson of Aston Villa and Hawa Cissoko of West Ham United.

Voting for Goal of the Month is now open and the vote will close at 10am on Friday 6 January.
