Boosted by last week's victory at Liverpool, Samuel Rak-Sakyi and his Chelsea Under-21s team-mates are determined to continue our momentum when we face Manchester United at Kingsmeadow in Premier League 2 action on Friday evening.

Rak-Sakyi has been a key figure for Filipe Coelho’s Under-21s squad since the start of the 2024/25 season, making 19 appearances, including 10 in the Premier League 2, and playing a crucial role in the team’s success.

His latest impressive performance came in a commanding 3-0 away victory over Liverpool, helping Chelsea secure our eighth league win, and third in a row in that competition, while also keeping a clean sheet.

Back at Cobham, preparations are in full swing for the next game, as the team gears up for a highly anticipated clash with Manchester United, with United sitting just one point ahead of the fifth-placed Blues in the Premier League 2 standings.

'We’re all really looking forward to the game,' said Rak-Sakyi, who has been at Chelsea since his Under-8s days. 'Coming off a win always gives us a boost of confidence.

'Training has been strong and we’re focusing on unity, making sure our connections are clear on the pitch. Chelsea against Manchester United is always a high-energy match and I love playing in games like these because they bring that extra edge.'

Rak-Sakyi has already hit major milestones this season, from making his senior debut in Chelsea’s dominant 8-0 UEFA Conference League victory over Noah at Stamford Bridge to earning his first senior start in the same competition against Astana. But how does he translate those experiences into his Academy performances?

'Playing with the men's team has been massive for my development,' Rak-Sakyi reflected. 'I feel more confident and I can see myself improving every day. It’s been a special season and I’m excited to keep pushing forward with my development.

'Being with the senior squad has taught me a lot, especially about unity. Back in the Academy, Filipe always emphasises the importance of teamwork. Everything we do is for the team, not just individual performances. We want to win together and that bond makes all the difference.'

On a personal level, the midfielder has already registered two goals and two assists this season, but remains hungry for more. Determined to make an even bigger impact, he is focused on increasing his tally and influencing games in key moments.

'I want to make a difference against Manchester United,' continued the 19-year-old. 'I would like to get more goals and assists, but I also want to focus on my overall impact across the pitch. I want to be a problem for opponents in defence as well as supporting our attacking players.

'Every game, I give my all to show what I’m capable of. My focus is on continuous improvement and becoming the best version of myself.'

This Friday’s match marks the Under-21s' 16th home game of the season and the players are eager to deliver a strong performance in front of our supporters at Kingsmeadow. With a 7pm kick-off, tickets are still available and Rak-Sakyi had a special message ahead of the league clash.

'Playing in front of a crowd means everything to us,' Rak-Sakyi concluded. 'Supporters might not realise just how much their energy lifts us. Hearing their chants drives us to give even more and makes us want to make them proud.

'Having a loud atmosphere now also prepares us for the next stages of our careers. I hope to play in stadiums filled with fans each week. The experience at the Academy helps us feel prepared and comfortable for that next step.

'It would be amazing to see as many fans as possible at Kingsmeadow. We have an exciting squad and I know it’s going to be a great match. So if I could give a message to supporters it would be to come down and watch!'
