Robert Sanchez has been nominated for the Premier League’s Castrol Save of the Season Award.
The Blues goalkeeper’s impressive stop against Aston Villa's Nicolo Zaniolo from September has made a nine-save shortlist from across the season.
From a well-worked Villa set-piece, Boubacar Kamara headed a Villa corner back into danger and found Zaniolo eight yards out.
The Italian's strike looked a certainty to hit the net, catching the volley with real power, but Sanchez produced an exceptional piece of goalkeeping, somehow reacting to tip the ball over the crossbar at the Matthew Harding end.
The stop has already claimed September’s Save of the Month crown, Sanchez becoming the first Chelsea stopper to win that award since Kepa Arrizabalaga claimed the prize in October 2022 - also for a save against Aston Villa.
The other nominees making up the shortlist are:
Liverpool’s Alisson in the 2-1 win over Newcastle
West Ham’s Alphonse Areola in their 4-1 defeat to Aston Villa
Luton’s Thomas Kaminski in a 2-1 win against Crystal Palace
Sheffield United’s Wes Foderingham in a 2-0 defeat to Liverpool
Everton’s Jordan Pickford in the goalless draw with Fulham
Brentford’s Mark Flekken in their 2-0 win over Wolves
Nottingham Forest’s Matz Sels during a 1-0 defeat to Liverpool
Manchester United’s Andre Onana in a 1-1 draw with Burnley
