Robert Sanchez believes our 6-2 victory over Wolves gives us a real platform to work from as we look to maintain our progress following the win at Molineux.
A stunning hat-trick from Noni Madueke and goals from Nicolas Jackson, Cole Palmer and the returning Joao Felix saw the Blues secure a memorable win in the Midlands during the eight-goal thriller.
With the victory securing our first three points in the Premier League under head coach Enzo Maresca, goalkeeper Sanchez was particularly happy to get off the mark. The Spanish shot-stopper believes the performance could prove to be a platform to build upon heading into Servette and Crystal Palace later this week.
‘We’ve been together for two months now and we’re pushing to get better off the ball and on the ball,’ the 26-year-old began.
‘I think against Wolves we showed we are improving fast and we’re doing well, but we need to take this as a starting point.
‘It was difficult at the start and I felt like we lost quite a few balls, but we defended okay, although we conceded some goals which we are not really happy about. The way we played in the second half was amazing.
‘We are building chemistry, practising in training and the more games and training sessions we do, the better we’ll get.’
Sanchez was heavily involved in our second goal of the afternoon, accurately switching the ball to the onrushing Jackson, before Palmer scooped the ball over the Wolves goalkeeper.
Our no. 1 explained that if the option is open, he’ll never be afraid to take an opportunity to get the ball up the field quickly.
He said: ‘We had been practising that, but obviously Wolves had their team quite high up so we had the opportunity with Nicolas’ run to put it in behind.
‘At the end of the day, we want to build up from the back and play, but we also want to find the spare man, whether that’s at close range or in behind.’
Sanchez also opened up about how much he is enjoying his role under Maresca, with the goalkeeper involved in the build-up under the Italian.
‘We speak about a lot of things and I feel really comfortable in this position,’ he added. ‘I know that’s what he likes his goalkeeper to do since he arrived, so I’m very happy with what I’m doing, Maresca is happy and we’re going to keep doing the same.’
