Sjoeke Nusken hopes her leadership qualities can keep helping the Blues to success this season.
The 23-year-old has started in each of our eight Women's Super League games thus far, helping the Blues maintain a perfect winning run in terms of results and move five points clear at the top of the table.
We could extend our advantage and streak of victories when we host Brighton & Hove Albion at Kingsmeadow this afternoon in our first game back since the international break, where Nusken was away representing Germany in friendly matches.
With this being the midfielder's second season at Chelsea, Nusken feels incredibly settled at the club. She hopes that is reflected in her performances on the pitch as she spoke about her desire to be one of the team's leaders.
'Being here for one year now, I feel really good being in this environment,' our No.6 said. 'Everything was new last season and now it's a new manager, of course, but I know my team-mates well on and off the pitch.
'I'm very happy to be here at Chelsea. I feel very good with my team. It has been a good season so far for me. I've played a main role in the midfield and that's what I want to continue and also build on.
'I want to be a leader. I want to push the team and to push everyone forward. Especially, in the midfield, you are in the middle of the pitch, so you can see and control everything. The main thing is to push everyone forward and to give everything to this team.'
The Blues return to action a fortnight after our last league match when we beat Manchester United 1-0 at Kingsmeadow to move us five points clear at the summit. Nusken says her team are feeling confident, but are wary of a challenging encounter with the Seagulls, who sit third in the league standings.
'It feels like a long time ago now that we had a game because of the international break,' Nusken said. 'We are very happy to be back. The team feel good and we've trained well.
'Brighton are a good team. They have a lot of new players. It's going to be an interesting game. We have to give everything, play our game and our style of football. We are on a good run.
'We're top of the table, so we play with confidence and we want to keep building. But, we look from game to game because is the time to be efficient. Our focus is on this game against Brighton and then we can move forward.'
Nusken has good memories of this weekend's opposition. In the same fixture against Brighton during the opening month of last season, the midfielder netted her first Chelsea goals and a maiden career hat-trick to help her side to a 4-2 victory.
'It was maybe the start of me feeling like I was really here at Chelsea,' Nusken said. 'Hopefully, I can score goals in this game, as well! I'm playing a little bit deeper now, so not in the position to score goals, but we will see. It will be a good game.'
If Nusken was to score, you can be sure there would be a celebration to accompany her goal. This season, the midfielder and team-mate Mayra Ramirez have come up with a new way to mark a goal when either of them have been on the scoresheet.
'We talked about it and we thought it could be a funny thing to do,' Nusken explained. 'So, we tried it out. We want to continue it. We have a good next one sorted... Maybe, for Brighton.'
