Sonia Bompastor was looking forward to celebrating Chelsea's League Cup win with her players and her family when she spoke to the media on Saturday afternoon, but our head coach stated focus would already have turned to Wednesday's match by this morning and is hoping for even bigger celebrations in May.

Bompastor was delighted to lift her first trophy as Chelsea head coach on Saturday following our 2-1 win over Manchester City at Pride Park.

But with the first leg of our Champions League quarter-final coming up against the same opposition on Wednesday, a return to City's Joie Stadium to follow on Sunday as we chase another Women's Super League title, and the Blues still in the hunt for the FA Cup, celebrations were limited to Saturday evening.

Bompastor explained: ‘I will celebrate with the players on the way back and my family. But when it is a quick turnaround like this, you do not get a lot of time to enjoy. The main thing for us is to enjoy today and then we have the quick turnaround so need to switch on tomorrow for preparation for Wednesday.

'For me, when I will celebrate the most is at the end of the season when hopefully we will have more than one trophy.

‘Before I was saying we haven’t won anything yet so I can start to say we have won one trophy but it is only one out of four. I will be celebrating the most if we can get more than one.’

Our third Women's League Cup title came courtesy of Mayra Ramirez's early finish and a late own-goal by Yui Hasegawa after Aoba Fujino had equalised just after the hour mark.

Saturday's match was the first of four consecutive games against Man City and while Bompastor was pleased to secure a psychological - and confidence - boost, she stressed the result will count for little if the Blues do not apply themselves in the right way on Wednesday night.

She said: ‘Psychologically, it is really important to win the first one. Of course, it will not be the main element going into the next game but in terms of confidence, it is really positive.

'You always recover better when you win the games so that is a big advantage but it will not be enough to think because we won today we will win on Wednesday.

'But it is really important in this rare situation where you have to face the same team four times in 12 days, to take it game-by-game and especially when it is different competitions, so I wanted my players to be really focused on the game today, they did that, and now is the time to enjoy, celebrate a little bit today but by tomorrow we already know all the plans for Wednesday.

'But our approach will be a bit different because it is over two legs in the Champions League so you prepare for the game in a different way.’
