Blues head coach Sonia Bompastor provided a fitness update on six players ahead of our final Women's Super League match of the year against Leicester City at the King Power Stadium.

We travel to the East Midlands five points clear atop the WSL table having won each of our nine league fixtures thus far. Bompastor's side will be looking to make it a perfect ten against the Foxes.

However, we will have to do so without defender Maelys Mpome and midfielder Julia Bartel, who Bompastor confirmed will miss our final league clash of 2024 due to injury. Both players were not named in the matchday squad for our midweek win against FC Twente.

Our head coach also revealed Sandy Baltimore, who has missed our last two fixtures, will be unavailable against Leicester but could return for Tuesday night's European encounter away to Real Madrid.

‘Maelys and Julia won’t be involved in the game tomorrow,' our head coach explained. 'Julia could be able to practice this morning but not normally. Maelys won’t be involved in the Real Madrid game either, she will be coming back in January.

‘Sandy won’t be involved in the game but can probably be involved in the squad for Real Madrid.'

When asked about the nature of Maelys' and Julia's injuries, Bompastor added: 'Both Maelys and Julia have quad injuries, but there are some differences.

'Maelys’ happened when she was with the national team in France, we tried to manage but the pain wouldn’t go away. Julia was in a training session, she had a step on the ground and felt something. It was not really bad, but we are managing her for a few days, she’s not fully recovered for tomorrow.’

This morning's press conference also saw Bompastor provide the latest on our longer-term absentees: Lauren James, Sam Kerr and Mia Fishel.

‘LJ is progressing really well,' Bompastor said. 'We are talking with the staff about her return. It’s always a little bit difficult because you want them back but you want to protect them not take too many risks. So, I think we will see LJ after the winter break for sure.

‘For Mia and Sam, they are long-term injuries and the recovery is really individual, each will go with their own rhythm. We hope to have them as soon as possible because all three are creative players who really impact the game when they come in. So as a manager, I hope to have them as soon as they can.’
