Blues head coach Sonia Bompastor says her side will be embracing a new opportunity to return to winning ways when we face Real Madrid at the Alfredo Di Stefano Stadium in the UEFA Champions League tomorrow evening.

The Blues are in action for the final time in 2024 when we face Las Blancas in the Spanish capital. With both sides having already secured their place in the quarter-finals, tomorrow's clash will be a battle for Group B's top spot, with Chelsea currently boasting a three-point advantage at the top of the table.

We come into the game in unfamiliar territory this campaign having dropped our first points of the season in our 1-1 draw with Leicester City in the Women's Super League.

But, there will be no dwelling on that by the Blues, who remain unbeaten in 15 games across all competitions this term, as Bompastor detailed the reaction she expects to see from her side against Real Madrid.

'We analysed the performance and we talked with the girls about it,' Bompastor said in her pre-match press conference. 'We need to learn from that and move forward. This is not something we can control anymore because it's in the past.

'We need to focus on our last game. The good point is we have the game tomorrow and that's a new opportunity to focus on that game. We want to be ready to perform and to go on the Christmas vacations with a good result.'

'We have kept our confidence,' Bompastor continued. 'The WSL is so competitive. I think it's the most competitive league in Europe, so we're going to have tough games. We never take anything for granted.

'Even if at the weekend we couldn't get the three points, we were brave enough to come back in the game and tied the match.

'We are confident because from analysing the last games we are in a really good momentum. We just want to keep this momentum and get back to winning.'

We met Real Madrid in our first matchday of this season's European competition, with the Blues prevailing 3-2 winners at Stamford Bridge back in October. It was a difficult encounter then, and our head coach is expecting another test tomorrow.

'Real Madrid are a team who have a lot of experience in the Champions League,' Bompastor told the media. 'They have a good squad, a talented squad. We expect a tough game, but we also focus on ourselves because we have a lot of experience as well.

'Coming into this game, we are top of the table, so we are confident but we know the game tomorrow will be tough again. We will need to be 100 per cent with our performance to make sure we can get the three points.'

Our head coach also confirmed winger Johanna Rytting Kaneryd didn't travel to Spain as part of our 22-strong squad due to an injury picked up against Leicester, meanwhile, Sandy Baltimore returns after a three-game absence.

'It will be important to have the right starting XI to make sure we start the game really strong,' Bompastor replied when asked about team news. 'Jojo (Rytting Kaneryd) didn't travel with us. She suffered a calf injury in the last game but we have Sandy Baltimore back with us in the squad.'
