Chelsea head coach Sonia Bompastor wants to see her side's 'ruthless mentality' on display during the final weeks of the 2024/25 season, starting with tomorrow's FA Cup semi-final against Liverpool at Kingsmeadow.

Chelsea host a Reds side that, under interim head coach Amber Whiteley, produced a surprise 1-0 win over Arsenal in the FA Cup quarter-final and defeated in-form Manchester United 3-1 in the Women's Super League the following week.

Those results are why Bompastor is under no illusion of the threat Liverpool pose. And with a place in the final at Wembley at stake, the Blues head coach expects those within her squad to produce their best.

'Liverpool are on a really good run and have a really good dynamic in terms of results and performances,' Bompastor explained. 'We expect to face a team that will be motivated for the game. It's for a place in the FA Cup final at Wembley, it says a lot for the motivation both teams will bring into the game.

'We expect a tough game again because, as I said, they have been on a good run with good results. We also want to focus on ourselves; I know if we bring our best version, we can qualify for the final. We play at home with the support of the fans. I think there's a lot of positives.'

Bompastor continued: 'For me, Wembley represents football in England. When you look at the games that have been played there by the women's team and the men's team, it's a lot of history.

'The stadium has been almost sold out any time the women's team have played there. So it's a big opportunity, I think, for every player and manager to be part of that.

'It would be a really positive thing for me if we can qualify for the final. But again, first of all, the focus is on the game tomorrow. That's really important.'

Chelsea ended a taxing March with a 2-2 draw against West Ham United at Kingsmeadow. The players then went off on international duty before all regrouping at Cobham on Friday, and Bomapstor made sure to address her squad to reiterate what's expected of them during the season run-in.

Bompastor explained: 'We had a review this morning with the team and talked a bit about that. In March, we dropped points against Brighton at the beginning of the block and again in the last game in the block [against West Ham].

'As a team, we can't drop our standards like we did in that game. I think it's up to us to make sure we have this ruthless mentality as a team.

'For the game tomorrow, I want to see the best version of Chelsea on the pitch. Probably the best version of ourselves is the game we had against Man City, the second leg in the Champions League quarter-final, but also the first 30 minutes we played against West Ham.

'If you analyse these games, every detail is really important. We just need to make sure the details for tomorrow are set up and we execute the game plan in the right way.'

With an FA Cup semi-final, the Champions League semi-final against Barcelona, and the Women's Super League run-in to come, the Blues head coach detailed how she views the coming weeks as an opportunity to make history with Chelsea.

She said: 'It's the home straight and I feel it's the most decisive and important moment of the season, not only for me as a manager, but for the entire club, staff and players together.

'I feel we are ready for that. This club has been about making history, winning titles, and it's the time of the year we can do that.

'We are still in three competitions and we have the opportunity to play against the best teams in Europe, big games. That's the opportunity for us to just show our best version and our level.

'Making sure we keep high standards. I think that's important to show that in the big games that are coming.'
