Sonia Bompastor says her Chelsea side will be looking to maintain our impressive defensive record when we face Everton in the fifth round of the FA Cup on Sunday.

The Blues, who are unbeaten in our 22 matches across all four competitions this season, have not conceded a goal since our UEFA Champions League win against Real Madrid in December.

Bompastor's side has kept a clean sheet in each of our six matches since the season resumed, and we have scored 13 goals in the process.

Ahead of our FA Cup clash against the Toffees, Bompastor said: ‘I was a defender when I was a player so it’s always important for me to have clean sheets.

'It shows everyone in the team works really hard for us to not concede any goals and it comes back to the mentality. It’s important if you want to go deep in the competitions to be strong defensive and it starts with our forwards, the midfield and the backline. We're all on the same page.

'We all want to finish the game with clean sheets and our mentality is we don’t want to give anything to our opponents.

'When we don’t have the ball, we have the mentality that we want to recover the ball as fast as we can and we don’t want to concede any goals. It’s something we work hard for.’

Bompastor and her players have already faced Everton this term, prevailing with a 5-0 win in the Women's Super League at Goodison Park. But the Toffees have only tasted defeat once in their last five matches and our head coach expects a challenging cup encounter.

She said: 'Since the last time we played them they are in a completely different form. They will be coming on Sunday with another dynamic.

'They are in a good dynamic at the moment, good run and results and we expect the game to be tougher than when we played them earlier in the season.

'They have talent and their forwards can cause us some trouble. We have analysed them and know how we need to prepare for the game, also how we need to focus on ourselves and how we can hurt them. But they are coming here in different form and they are strong.’

With the Blues still in contention for four trophies this season, Bompastor insists having the right mentality will be a key factor in achieving success. Many players in our squad have experience with that already and she hopes they can continue to put it to good use.

Bompastor explained: ‘I spoke about our ambitions: we want to compete in every competition we are involved in.

'It’s one thing to go into the last game in the competition but when you’re in a final, you have to perform. It comes to the mental side of the performance, making sure you’re bringing the right confidence to your players and also in terms of tactics, you give them the right game plan for the day to make sure we’re as ready as we can be.

'This club is used to going deep in all competitions and being in finals, so the experience in these types of games is really important and we have a lot of this experience.’
