Blues head coach Sonia Bompastor reacted to her side's 3-0 win against Liverpool in the Women's Super League by discussing confidence, ending our winless run against the Merseyside club, and balancing our positive start to the campaign with a desire to keep improving.

Goals in the first half from Mayra Ramirez and Guro Reiten and a late strike from substitute Aggie Beever-Jones helped the Blues claim a sixth consecutive league win.

The victory in Merseyside not only keeps our 100 per cent record intact, but also sees Bompastor become the first manager to win their first four away matches in the WSL. It is also the first time the Blues have beaten Liverpool on the road since March 2019.

'I'm really pleased again today with the performance and the three points,' Bompastor told the media when asked if she has been surprised by our positive start to the season in her post-match press conference.

'I knew when I was coming to Chelsea that I was going to manage a squad with a lot of talent and a club with a lot of ambitions.

'For me, the main job is to make sure the players really understand the way we want to play together and what I expect from them. At the moment, with the good results, they just have a lot of confidence. It's good they can show themselves on the field.'

Today's win ends a winless run in Merseyside against Liverpool, which Bompastor was asked about by the journalists. She said: 'I was aware of that, but I didn't talk at all with my players before the game about that. I think that it's a new era and we're in a different dynamic from last season.

'We knew before the game that it would be a tough game. We had to have a great performance if we wanted to have a good result.

'We were really focused on set-pieces because we knew it was one of their strengths. We did well. We maintained a clean sheet in the game. We conceded some corners and free-kicks, but we were really strong defensively and that's part of our mentality - making things hard for the opposition.'

As she had said before the encounter with Liverpool, Bompastor insists there is still more to come from her side this season even with our impressive start.

'Even if it has maybe been a perfect start for us in terms of results, points and also performances - we haven't won anything yet,' Bompastor added. 'We need to keep a good balance between confidence, which is really important for the players, but also we need to keep our head on our shoulders and be in line with reality. That's my job to make sure I maintain that balance.'
