Sonia Bompastor hailed the depth of talent in her squad ahead of tomorrow night's UEFA Champions League clash with Celtic and shared her happiness at Sam Kerr's family news.

The Blues return to Champions League action at Stamford Bridge tomorrow night to face a Celtic side we defeated 2-1 last week in Glasgow. That victory ensured we sit atop Group B with three wins from three.

Another victory against Celtic, this time on home turf, coupled with FC Twente dropping points against Real Madrid would guarantee Bompastor's side at least second place in the group and progression to the quarter-finals.

To be in such a position ahead of tomorrow's match reflects how positively the Blues have started the season. And in her pre-match press conference, Bompastor was asked about the strength of her squad, how she has utilised it, and the absence of key players currently sidelined due to injury.

'This is important and why we have numbers in the squad and quality talent,' Bompastor explained. 'When you play this many games in the season and most of our players are internationals, they play a lot with their club and the national team.

'They travel a lot and sometimes people don't realise how much that brings fatigue to the body.

'It's important for us that if we have players injured then we have others who are available and they also step up. It comes with confidence and us as a staff giving every player a clear vision and our expectations on the pitch.

'It's been good because even the young players are showing good performances, but also experienced players are surrounding them. The squad is in a good place as a chemistry and everything else.'

The reigning Scottish champions ran the Blues close last week and scored first midway through the first half. But two quickfire goals from Maika Hamano and Ashley Lawrence secured the victory for Bompastor's side.

Our head coach says she was not surprised by the threats Celtic posed and is expecting another challenging encounter in SW6.

'I'm never surprised about the opposition,' she added. 'We really analysed them and every opposition. They showed in the game last week that they fight really hard. They put their heart on the field and we expect the same tomorrow.

'They have big values and they show them on the pitch. They will come in tomorrow with the same team spirit and wanting to show us that they have a good team and they want to have a good performance. We are ready for that.'

Off the pitch, forward Sam Kerr and her fiancé Kristie Mewis shared the happy news they are set to welcome a baby next year. And our head coach is delighted the Chelsea family is growing.

'I want to give all my support to Sam and Kristie and tell them that we are really proud,' Bompastor said. 'It's great news.

‘As a woman, having the opportunity to become a mum is the best news you can have in your life. I'm so happy for them. I can't wait to welcome this little baby to our family.'
