Our fixture against West Ham on Sunday was extra special as it coincided with Mother's Day, and Sonia Bompastor gave some insight into combining her roles as a mum of four as well as the Chelsea head coach, revealing there are some similarities between the two...
An intense March period for the Blues culminated in a WSL clash against West Ham at Kingsmeadow on Mother's Day, a special occasion not only for those in the crowd, but also for Bompastor.
With four children to raise as well as running the show at Chelsea, the coach has her work cut out, and she gave some insight into her life on and off the pitch.
'It's two intense jobs,' she said after the match. 'But I'm really happy to have my kids around. They just gave me some flowers, which makes me happy. But again, it's really important to be able to find the right balance between being the Chelsea manager, but also a mum of four.
'I'm really happy in my life. Even if tonight, I will be a little bit frustrated about the result and the fact we didn't get the win in the end.'
If running a family sometimes might seem like running a team of football players, Bompastor confirmed from experience that there are some similarities between the two.
The coach has now had time to build relationships with her squad since arriving last summer, and has been able to get the very most out of them as we sit top of the league and awaiting semi-finals of the Champions League and FA Cup, as well has already lifting the League Cup this season.
'I feel probably like my players sometimes are my kids,' she smiled. 'I care about them. And as I said, I'm always really proud of them as I'm proud of my own kids.'
