Sonia Bompastor was pleased her Chelsea side maintained a 100 per cent record in this season's UEFA Women's Champions League by defeating Celtic, but admits she wanted more from the performance in in Glasgow.
For the first time since Bompastor's arrival as Blues head coach, we had to come from behind to claim victory. We had fallen behind in the 22nd minute when Murphy Agnew netted, but quickfire goals from Maika Hamano and Ashley Lawrence put us en route to another three points.
It means Bompastor's side has won each of our nine matches across all competitions this term, including three in the Champions League. We sit top of Group B with nine points ahead of next week's rematch with Celtic at Stamford Bridge.
Speaking in her post-match press conference, Bompastor explained why she was delighted to claim a third European win. However, she admitted the display was not up to the standard expected from her squad.
'I knew it would be a tough game for us, especially because of the Celtic mentality,' Bompastor said. 'They showed a lot of heart and they played with a lot of energy. We were expecting that they were going to be really motivated.
'Also, as a manager, I decided to rotate my squad, so sometimes it can happen that the players don't get the same chemistry together. But I wanted to have a better impression from my team. I'm really happy with the three points and the victory, but not really happy with the performance. We were not efficient enough tonight.'
Bompastor added: 'Every game is always an opportunity to learn. Tonight I learned a lot and I will share that with my players as a team, but also as individuals.
'There are some positives. With our squad, we are still able to rotate players and rest some. We have the three points and the victory, so we stay in the good dynamic for that, but in terms of the performance, we needed to do a better job in different aspects.'
Although she believes our display could have been better in Glasgow, Bompastor told the media she was happy with her side's reaction after going behind, with two quickfire goals ensuring we regained the lead and control of the game.
'It's a positive thing,' Bompastor said. 'We didn't really get stressed about the situation. We were confident enough to stay in the game, play and score the two goals. I think we could have scored a lot more. We were not efficient tonight, but at least we didn't concede more than one.'
Bomapstor made eight changes to the starting XI from our last league encounter while three substitutions were made at half-time with Lucy Bronze, Guro Reiten and Johanna Rytting Kaneryd all featuring over the second half.
The Blues head coach says such rotation was always part of the plans. 'As a manager, I always have different plans for the game and the three substitutions were planned,' Bompastor added.
'That's the positive. We are just now moving on and going into the Manchester City game exactly with the plans we wanted to have.'
