Sonia Bompastor is purely concentrating on getting the best out of her team in Sunday's big match against Arsenal at Stamford Bridge, despite the magnitude of the match and its potential impact on the title race.

Our head coach has been enjoying an excellent first season at the helm, with Chelsea the Women's Super League's only unbeaten side, having dropped just two points so far, in a 1-1 draw with Leicester City before Christmas.

The Blues face arguably our toughest challenge yet on Sunday, though, when second-in-the-table Arsenal come to Stamford Bridge in front of what could be a record crowd for a Chelsea Women's home league game.

With the Blues going into the match seven points clear of the Gunners at the top of the table, it was suggested to Bompastor that this result could have added significance in swinging the momentum of the title race one way or the other.

'Our mentality is to focus on the game and every game is just worth three points, it is no more than that on Sunday,' responded Bompastor, as she addressed the media at Cobham ahead of Sunday's big match at the Bridge.

'So we focus on ourselves and our mentality is to make sure in every game we put ourselves in the right mentality to make sure we win the game. We don’t focus on the table, we take it game by game, and we are more focused on how we can perform the best on game day.

'In terms of points we’ve only dropped two points and I think that’s almost ideal, but we still have a lot of games to play in the league, a lot of games in every competition I hope. We just focus game by game, step by step. That’s our mentality and we haven’t won anything yet. That is our mindset at the moment.'

Despite keeping it at the back of her mind, Bompastor does acknowledge it will be a big occasion when our capital and title rivals Arsenal come to west London.

That is especially true given their own good recent form, after winning five league games in a row, and not having tasted defeat in any competition since the appointment of Renee Slegers as manager in October.

'These games feel different, probably because it’s a derby and Arsenal are a big team. They are on a really positive run and we just want to play this game,' continued Sonia.

'There will be a lot of really good players on the pitch on Sunday and as a manager you just feel lucky to be part of that. So I’m really excited for that and my job will be to give my players the confidence to perform on the day.

'I want to congratulate Renee because she’s doing a really good job. They have been unbeaten since the last time we played them, so they are on a good run, really confident. It will be a big game on Sunday.

'Arsenal are in a really good, confident position with the results but also the way they play. It’s a team who are able to possess the ball, they have a lot of quality, a lot of strength in the team. So danger can come from everywhere on the pitch.

'On the one hand you have a really good team with a lot of power and strength, but also I focus a lot on ourselves because we are also on a positive run with a lot of confidence and have great players. So it’s about going into the game with the right mindset and just wanting to perform on the day.'
