Ahead of our Women's Super League match against Liverpool, Sonia Bompastor has delivered a fitness update on two Chelsea players who missed our previous league outing.
Having defeated Everton last weekend to maintain our 100% record across all competitions this season, the Blues return to the north east on Sunday to face Liverpool in St Helens. And Bompastor will be able to call upon a duo that missed our previous trip to Merseyside.
'Really good team news,' Bompastor said. 'Lucy [Bronze] and Catarina Macario are back in the squad, so they will be available for the game against Liverpool on Sunday.'
Our head coach was also asked about team selection and rotation in her pre-match press conference. Bompastor replied: 'You know when you are Chelsea, you have so many games to play during the season. You have to have this big squad with a lot of quality and talent.
'The players are focused. It's good for me because I can rotate and always find 11 players who are starting with a main focus being on being efficient and being able to win the games. It's really important, especially when you play so many games with the league and the Champions League.
'I would say the most competitive one from this week's training sessions,' Bompastor answered when asked about what starting XI she may deploy against Liverpool. 'Of course, you have your team and the chemistry with the players, but you have to take into account the players who were competing during the training sessions.
'Players are in a really good place with confidence. I think they are all competing to start the game. It's good competition. That's always good for the coach to have this many choices.'
