Ahead of Sunday's FA Cup fifth-round clash against Everton, Sonia Bompastor provided a fitness update on a Blues quartet and reflected on today's UEFA Women's Champions League draw.
Our second cup game this week comes against the Toffees at Kingsmeadow; we reached the final of the Women's League Cup after beating West Ham United on Wednesday.
Defender Lucy Bronze and winger Sandy Baltimore were absent for that midweek encounter, and Bompastor has confirmed the former will also likely miss Sunday's FA Cup clash.
'No new injuries from the game on Wednesday,' our head coach told the media in her pre-match press conference. 'We still have Sandy and Lucy [as doubts], I don’t think Lucy will be involved on Sunday but we have a chance to have Sandy back with us.’
Bompastor also shared an update on new signing Naomi Girma, who has yet to debut following her January switch San Diego Wave. The American international arrived in London during the NWSL's off-season and is nursing a calf injury.
'She's started to practice with us, so it's already good news,' Bompastor said. 'She's in a good way and will be ready soon, but not for the first game on Sunday.'
Bompastor was also asked about midfielder Sophie Ingle who is rehabbing a long-term anterior cruciate ligament injury.
'Her rehabilitation is going well,' Bompastor explained. 'I saw her this morning, she is in a good place mentally and really happy, things are going in the right way and her recovery is going well. She had a smile on her face when I saw her this morning. She is progressing and it’s positive news.’
Earlier this afternoon, Bompastor's side were drawn against fellow Women's Super League club Manchester City in the quarter-finals of the Champions League. It means that in March the Blues will face City in four consecutive games: the League Cup final, the two legs of the quarter-final, and in the WSL.
'I’m used to that because when I was in France, we had this type of confrontation between Lyon and PSG,' our head explained. 'Last season we played them seven times and almost every week at the end of the season.
'Having his experience is positive for me. We will face them in different competitions and that will mean different games.
'It will be tough for sure and when you have to face an English team, you wish you could have a different opponent because you are used to them. But that’s the draw and we will be excited to play them in each competition.’
