Sonia Bompastor has urged her players to 'not to have any regrets' following the conclusion of Thursday's pivotal Champions League quarter-final second leg against Manchester City at Stamford Bridge.

The Blues are preparing for the final match of four consecutive games against Nick Cushing's side when we meet in the Champions League, but will have to overturn a 2-0 defeat suffered in the first leg in Manchester last week.

Despite the game's high-stakes, the boss was in confident mood as she discussed the preparations undertaken as we look to overturn that deficit from the first leg.

She said: 'It is always more difficult when you are losing by two goals but obviously we are confident. We are playing a home game.

'It will be tough and difficult, we know that, but we are ready to embrace the challenge. This is what this squad and this club are about. The players are so competitive, the staff are so competitive.

'So it’s a new challenge, we have never been in that situation before this season, but we are ready. I just want my players not to have any regrets by the end of the game.'

Chelsea have won three out of four games against Man City this season, the latest coming last Sunday when Erin Cuthbert headed home a stoppage-time winner.

Thursday's game at Stamford Bridge stands between a potential place in the semi-final of Europe's elite club competition, but for Bompastor it's business as usual as she gets her side ready for the challenge that awaits us.

Belief and confidence in the side's abilities were top of the agenda, and an emphasis on the factors that have seen them go unbeaten in the league and also allowed them to secure a League Cup trophy against the same team we now face in the Champions League.

'I didn’t feel any difference preparing for this game than the previous ones,' Sonia continued. 'I just feel that we need to believe, we need to be confident heading into the game. I know we have the quality in the squad to turn things around, so it’s about making sure we execute that.

'I want us to attack the game, make sure we don’t have any regrets at the end, and hopefully the result will be positive.

'We always try to do our best on the pitch and this is the mentality we have in the squad and at Chelsea and I’m really proud of that. Going into the game tomorrow it will be the same. In every game I always try my best and I always try to support my players in the best way possible, and that won’t be any different in the game tomorrow. '

Bompastor made several changes ahead of the Women's Super League match last Sunday, and confirmed that she may return to a more regular XI on Thursday night.

With no new injury concerns ahead of the tie at Stamford Bridge, Bompastor went on to emphasise the importance of depth in this Chelsea squad and the vital part that every player will have to play – no matter whether they start or come on as a substitute – if we are to advance through to the semi-final.

'When you play that many games it’s important to have depth in the squad,' Bompastor explains. 'Also when you’re a manager, it’s important to bring some fresh legs into the game. It can make a key difference as you could see in the last two games [against Man City], it was maybe what made a difference to the result at the end.

'Hopefully we are in a good position in that aspect. I think almost everyone is available, we have fresh legs and I’ve already told my players that the main thing for me tomorrow is for us to be able to have a team performance. Starters and finishers.

'I am convinced we can make a difference in starting the game with the starting XI but also bringing the finishers on to finish the job.

'It's always better when you have that in your back pocket as a manager.'
