Sonia Bompastor acknowledged Chelsea face a big challenge when we look to overturn tonight's 4-1 defeat to Barcelona but says her players will head into the Champions League semi-final second leg at Stamford Bridge next Sunday with 'a lot of positivity' and insists they will relish the challenge.

The Chelsea boss suffered only her second defeat since she joined the club in the summer at the Estadi Johan Cruyff and will now hope to come up with a plan to overturn the 4-1 defeat at Stamford Bridge in a week's time.

The Blues entered the final eight minutes just 2-1 behind before conceding two late goals, which significantly changed the context of the tie and the challenge we now face if we are to reach the Champions League final in Lisbon on Saturday 24 May.

Bompastor said: 'Tonight was difficult. It is difficult to lose the game but also to lose conceding four goals.

'I said before the game that these games are difficult because Barcelona are one of - if not the - best team in Europe.

'When we were at 2-1 we were not in a really bad situation because it was only a one-goal difference, even if our mentality going into the game was to win the game, but the last ten minutes was not good enough. We made - as a team - too many mistakes in the game tonight to be able to have a better performance and a better result.'

Chelsea now face an important Women's Super League game against Crystal Palace on Wednesday night at Kingsmeadow before attention then turns to the Champions League semi-final second leg.

While the Blues boss understands the task will now be extremely difficult, as we face a Barcelona side who have won the last two Champions Leagues, she refuses to give up hope.

Bompastor said: 'We need to learn from this and now we want to move forward, focusing on the next game against Crystal Palace and try to turn things around [against Barcelona] next week.

'It will be difficult but in football, you need to believe and the first thing will be going into the second leg trying to win the game and then you never know what can happen.'

She continued: 'For sure it will be difficult because we will have to score and create a lot more than we did today, while not conceding because if we concede one or two goals then it becomes even more difficult.

'But we like to have challenges and it will be a big challenge but we will go into it with a lot of positivity because it is a new game and new opportunity for us to perform.

'We are competitors so we want to show a better picture of Chelsea.'
