A successful first month in the Women’s Super League for Chelsea has resulted in head coach Sonia Bompastor being named WSL Manager of the Month for September.

The 44-year-old, who took charge of the Blues this summer, guided her side to back-to-back wins in the WSL, with eight goals scored and none conceded in our opening two league games.

Our opening match of the campaign saw Chelsea secure a hard-fought 1-0 win against Aston Villa at Kingsmeadow, with Swedish winger Johanna Rytting Kaneryd scoring the match-winner.

The following week and on the road for the first time, the Blues claimed an impressive 7-0 win over Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.

Six different players – Aggie Beever-Jones, Lucy Bronze, Lauren James, Guro Reiten, Catarina Macario and Nathalie Bjorn - were on the scoresheet in the rout in south London.

Those opening two victories mean the Blues are currently unbeaten in our last five matches in the WSL, a winning run that extends to our final three games of last term’s title-winning campaign.

Bompastor beat Manchester United’s Marc Skinner and Tottenham Hotspur’s Robert Vilahamn to be named the WSL’s Manager of the Month for September.

Congratulations, Sonia!
