Chelsea winger Raheem Sterling has revealed a change of diet was a mitigating factor behind his injury troubles in 2022/23, but says that is behind him as he eyes a successful campaign next season.

The forward made 38 appearances in all competitions for Chelsea after joining last campaign but missed the England national team’s final two squads of the term due to hamstring issues.

‘Towards the end of the season, I changed my diet, and I went to do something different that I have not done before. I had a little bit more KG on me that I haven’t had before, I was carrying extra weight.

‘I had some hamstring problems. Towards the end of last season I had some hamstring issues again, and me and the manager made a decision together that the best thing for me to do was to get the hamstring right,’ Raheem said.

Sterling added that he was now ‘just eating a little bit less’ and hopes his fitness problems are behind him.

‘Pre-season is always a way to get the body right, and I am in a great place.’
