Raheem Sterling has spoken openly about the difficulties Chelsea players have been facing while we have been going through a significant and challenging transition period.
The Blues forward has played under three head coach’s since his arrival just over a year ago now, with Thomas Tuchel, Graham Potter and Frank Lampard all coaching the England international in his maiden Chelsea campaign.
As an experienced and highly professional character, Sterling’s analysis and thoughts of Mauricio Pochettino’s start to life in west London are bound to be a reliable take.
He says it has been challenging working Stateside in such soaring temperatures under the Argentine, but hopes we will reap the rewards going forward.
‘It is probably the most I have ran in a long time. It's good. In my position and when I'm at my best, it's when I am doing those actions again and again. It’s good, and we’re building,’ he said, smirking.
‘When I first heard [about Pochettino’s appointment], I think it was an exciting one, I know how difficult it is to play against his teams, they’re always resilient and tough to play against. I just knew he would be a coach that would bring what we needed.
‘At certain times last year, to have someone like himself to lead us in difficult situations last season would have been good.'
Raheem also spoke of the challenges the Blues squad have faced in recent times.
‘We have had a lot of players going out. It is a younger squad of course, energetic and a different dynamic and feel to it. They’re good guys, willing to learn and with the presence of the manager it is clicking.
‘I think building togetherness comes on the training field, and in and around the hotel. The morale of the team is high and we just need to keep building.’
