Fran Kirby ended her remarkable Chelsea career in the most fitting way: the final goal in a dominant victory that secured the Blues another Women's Super League title.

The 30-year-old signed off from nine years of stellar service by coming off the bench to score our last goal in our 6-0 win against Manchester United. It was a fairytale ending for the forward, who departs our all-time top goalscorer in the modern era.

Victory at Old Trafford sealed our fifth consecutive WSL title and Kirby's seventh during a trophy-laden spell with the Blues. And Chelsea legend says lifting the title and scoring was a perfect way to end her time at the club.

‘It was amazing,' said Kirby. 'I got a little bit emotional when all the girls came over and they were hitting me and jumping on me – they were saying that they were getting goosebumps [after the goal].

'When I went through on goal, I just thought, "Please don’t save it!" I’ve actually been practicing that finish for two weeks every single day after training, cutting in and finishing.’

No sooner had the ball rolled over the line that Kirby wheeled off to celebrate with the travelling Chelsea supporters, who were in fine voice the entire afternoon in sunny Manchester.

Super Fran, indeed. That chant had started long before she even graced the pitch. The noise only got louder as the ball hit the back of the net.

‘It was a really nice moment,' added Kirby. 'I’ve been at the club for a long time and they’ve supported me through amazing moments and hard moments. For me to see them off with a goal, it was perfect.’

Kirby has lifted 16 pieces of silverware with Chelsea following today's title triumph, but she has plenty more than several winner's medals to show from her time at the club. This has been a journey where she has flourished.

'It’s been my home for nine years and it’s somewhere I’ve grown up, matured, had some hard moments, some amazing moments, and learned how to deal with them,' said Kirby.

'Every player I’ve played with and every staff member I’ve worked with has been part of the journey and made me who I am today.

'I will be forever thankful to every single person because what this club has done – and what the WSL has done – for women’s football in this country is amazing. To be a small part of it is something I never dreamed of growing up.’
