Last Thursday morning, a group of students from Harris Academy Sutton believed they were on their way to a careers event.

However, much to their surprise, Jake Ricketts, Joseph Simms, Joshua Claughton and Stanley Ball arrived at Chelsea’s training ground in Cobham for a special visit courtesy of Chelsea Foundation.

The four astonished boys, who have been through difficult times recently, were invited into the training ground as part of Chelsea Foundation’s latest community day.

The students met Chelsea legend Carlo Cudicini and took part in a Q&A with the former goalkeeper and Chelsea TV’s Lee Parker, before heading out to the training pitch.

After watching the squad in action, the boys met with the players and staff who signed memorabilia for the students.

Joseph said: ‘I was very impressed with the quality of training and it was brilliant to see the players in action. I’m a huge Chelsea fan and my favourite player is Cole Palmer, so it was fantastic to meet him and all of the squad. I got my Chelsea shirt signed and will be wearing it to school!’

Jake said: ‘I used to play for Chelsea Foundation’s pan-disability team when I was younger, so I was very surprised to be back here at the training ground. I loved meeting Nicolas Jackson, I think he’s great.’

Joshua said: ‘I can’t believe I met Raheem Sterling.’

Stanley added: ‘Today was a complete surprise, I thought we were going to a careers day, but couldn’t believe it when we arrived at Chelsea’s training ground. It’s been a great day and much better than being at school!’
