Ahead of the Chelsea Under-18s' first league fixture of the season, it is a great chance to catch-up with new scholar Kiano Dyer about life on and off the pitch.
Our Under-18s take on Crystal Palace as Hassan Sulaiman leads his boys out at Cobham tomorrow in a game scheduled to kick off at 11am.
Even before becoming a scholar this season, Kiano Dyer has been heavily involved in the Under-18s team, playing first under Ed Brand, who gave him his debut in the professional development stage, and now Hassan Sulaiman.
He has continued to make an impression and that was evident as Mark Robinson gave him his first Under-21s start last Friday against Blackburn Rovers on the Premier League 2.
As we look ahead to a game he could potentially be involved in, Kiano discusses a number of things regarding himself as a player.
What are your biggest strengths?
'I would say my dribbling, passing and screening. Screening I talk about the most because someone my size has to be clever about the way I approach much bigger opponents.'
'I do really like a tackle as well because I think it is a tone-setter for me and sometimes the team.'
What are you looking forward to developing more this season?
'I want to get in the right positions to score and assist more. I think that I am constantly trying to improve and see where I can impact the pitch the most, and even though I like picking up the ball from deep, I do want to try and be on the end of chances too.'
How did you feel making your Under-21s debut in the PL2?
'I was not scared or really nervous if I am honest. I have to just see it as another game because then I will not think about it too much. I am obviously proud of the achievement but as soon as I got my first touch then I think I was comfortable. It was definitely a good, new experience for me.'
He added, 'I am grateful to Robbo for giving me the chance and trusting me from the start.'
What did the older boys say to you?
'They just give a lot of good encouragement, they do not criticise too much on a bad pass or a loose touch, they are really supportive, always saying to show for the ball and not be afraid. It is up to me to show the talent and repay the faith and trust that the management team and the players have in me.'
Outside of football, what do you like doing?
'I really enjoy spending time with family and friends. Of course I like playing my PlayStation but I always like to make time to hang around with the people I care about too.'
Who are your football idols?
I think that is easy for me, Xavi and Iniesta. They are a class above and I always try little things that they do in training and in matches because they are two of the best to ever do it.
