We sit down with Saheed Olagunju, one of our scholars for the 2023/24 season, as he discusses his time at Chelsea as well as his off-field activities.
Olagunju scored his first goal for Chelsea Under-18s in the Premier League Cup earlier this season. He is now hoping to build on that and make an impact during the remainder of the 2023/24 campaign.
The youngster has expressed his desire to impress by continuing to do the hard work, which he believes will pay off.
That starts in the next round of the Premier League Cup, when we take on Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday in a match which will be streamed live for free on the Official Chelsea App. Kick off is at 11am on Saturday, October 21.

How do you rate your start to the season?
'I feel like it has been a good start and I want to continue striving to be the best I can possibly be. Since moving up, I can see the standards and demands in training and in a game are different but it has been exciting to be a part of.'
What do you like most about being here at Chelsea?
'I think I love the most the fact that people are always available, whenever you need them. The staff, and this is not just including the coaching staff, are all so helpful. So I am grateful for that.'
What has Under-18s head coach Hassan Sulaiman said to you?
'He said there is competition for starting line-up places and for squad places but when I do get my chance, I have to take it with both hands. That is what I intend to do. The key is for me to continue to show consistency in training.'
What do you love about being a defender?
'I love winning the ball in challenges and duels. A goal-saving tackle is equivalent to scoring from 40 yards out. I think I also love that I am able to step-in and win the ball through timely interceptions. I also love the opportunity to play long diagonals.'
What defenders do you love the most?
'I think away from Chelsea my favourite defenders are Sergio Ramos in his prime and Antonio Rudiger. They are both unbelievable players. Here at Chelsea, Thiago Silva and John Terry are definitely blueprints of the modern day defender for someone like myself.'
Olagunju will be in contention for a spot in the defence for this Saturday's live streamed Under-18s fixture away to Tottenham in the Premier League Cup. The game is scheduled to kick-off at 11am and you can watch the game for free on the official Chelsea app.
