Tosin Adarabioyo was pleased to do his bit in the attacking third by netting his fourth goal of the season as Chelsea returned to winning ways with a victory in front of our supporters at Stamford Bridge.
On top of his defensive duties, Tosin demonstrated again the threat he can pose at the other end of the pitch, by scoring our opening goal in Monday evening’s 3-1 Premier League victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers.
That made it three goals in as many games for the centre-back, following his brace in the 5-0 win over Morecambe in the FA Cup third round, joining fellow defender Marc Cucurella and Noni Madueke on the scoresheet against Wolves.
He had to wait before he could celebrate this one, while a lengthy VAR review overruled the original offside flag to reinstate the goal, after he had gathered a deflected Reece James effort admirably before tucking it into the bottom corner.
‘It’s my fourth goal of the season and my first Premier League goal for Chelsea, so I’m very happy,’ said Tosin. ‘When I got the ball I managed to get it down and saw I was one-on-one with the keeper, so I just thought to slot it home.
‘I was pretty confident I still had a defender lurking behind me. I’m not sure how tight it actually was but I had a feeling I was onside and I was very happy to contribute with a goal.
‘It’s definitely good to contribute to the goals and we need to do that all over the pitch. Goals are goals at the end of the day, even if you get the scummy ones it’s always a good feeling!’
Tosin also had a new centre-back partner against Wolves, as he lined up alongside Trevoh Chalobah, who was playing his first match since returning from a loan spell with Crystal Palace during the first half of the season.
‘He came straight back in, fit in fantastically and did an amazing job,’ added Tosin. ‘He managed to do everything absolutely flawless tactically, so I’m very happy for him.
‘Obviously the systems at Chelsea and Palace are different, so it’s a credit to him to be able to come back into the team and do everything perfectly.’
Those strong performances from our two centre-backs contributed to an important victory for the Blues, as we left the pitch with all three Premier League points for the first time in 2025, following five games without a win in that competition.
Having had to fight to retake the lead, after Tosin’s opener was cancelled out by a Wolves equaliser deep into added time at the end of the first half, the defender was delighted to be able to celebrate with the Chelsea supporters at the Bridge by the final whistle.
He continued: ‘It was gutting conceding that goal at the end of the first half but we came out all guns blazing again and did an amazing job to manage the game well and get a great result.
‘It was definitely very important to get back to winning ways and come back to Stamford Bridge and get three points on the board, which we’re very pleased with. It was amazing to go out there in front of our fans and get the win.
‘The results hadn’t really gone our way, but we actually still put in some great performances within those games. But today was one where we managed to turn it into getting the win.
‘We’re taking each game as it comes and the next game is Manchester City, so our full focus is on that now. We’ll recover and then start to approach that game.’
