Tosin Adarabioyo felt Saturday’s win over West Ham United demonstrated the depth of quality that runs throughout the Chelsea squad and was delighted to pick up three points and a clean sheet on his full Premier League debut for the Blues.

It was certainly a day to remember for Tosin as he made his first league start for the club since joining from neighbours Fulham, in an east versus west capital derby at the London Stadium, helping his side to an emphatic 3-0 victory over the Hammers.

After playing for the full 180 minutes across the two legs of our Conference League play-off win over Servette and coming off the bench in last week’s Premier League win at Bournemouth, the defender was clearly delighted to triumph again on his full debut in domestic competition.

‘It was amazing, a great result, so I feel great. It was very impressive – three goals and a clean sheet, exactly what we came here to do and we got the job done.

‘Being a derby just makes it a little bit more special that we came here and were able to get the win.

‘It’s obviously very good to get on the pitch and make my first Premier League start and a get top result as well.’

The depth of options available to head coach Enzo Maresca was also clear at the London Stadium, as Tosin slotted in with a minimum of fuss at centre-back, while Wesley Fofana shifted to the right side of our defence in the absence of Reece James and Malo Gusto.

It was no surprise to the summer signing that things went so smoothly, recording a clean sheet in a second successive game despite the changes at the back, given the wealth of talent he sees on the training pitch at Cobham every day.

‘It obviously came on the back of a good result at Bournemouth, when I came on and kept another clean sheet, and today we did so again. so I’m very happy.

‘I think everyone knows our squad is phenomenal. You can take any player, you can swap any player in or out and it’s still going to be a high level.’

Of course, it wasn’t just the defenders who get the credit for our back-to-back Premier League shutouts, and Tosin highlighted the role of goalkeeper Robert Sanchez.

‘He’s huge,’ said the 26-year-old. ‘You can see he commits himself to come and collect a lot of balls. He just makes our job a lot easier.’

That leaves Tosin confident of what he and his Blues team-mates can achieve in 2024/25, even if he is still taking things one game at a time during this early stage of the season.

‘Every player aims for the top, every player aims for the best, so we’ve just got to keep on striving, putting the performance in every single weekend and see where it takes us.’
