Hello, America! Chelsea’s pre-season tour of the USA has officially begun after the Blues touched down in Los Angeles…
The 5th Stand app and the official Chelsea website have been granted exclusive access to Chelsea’s pre-season tour of America, and we will be on hand every step of the way to keep you updated at what Thomas Tuchel and his players are getting up to in our daily tour diaries.
To kick off the series, here’s a rundown of what happened on day one…
Reporting for duty
The day started in relatively normal fashion for the players, as they reported in at Cobham as usual on Saturday morning. However, it wasn’t to prepare for training as instead the guys boarded the team coach to take them straight to the airport.
After the regular passport checks where completed, it was onto the plane to fly straight to LA. The aircraft was comfortable and offered a very of different entertainment features, with video games and movies being the flavour for many of the squad on the long-haul flight.
There was even chance for some card games, with Cesar Azpilicueta, Ethan Ampadu, Billy Gilmour and Hilario, our goalkeeping coach, among those sat together at the front of the plane and ensuring spirits remained high throughout the journey.
Resting up
After the fun of the card and video games ended, it was back to the designated plane seats to get some much-needed sleep.
The flight took around 11 hours from leaving the UK but we were soon touching down in sunny Los Angeles, before making our way to the team hotel.
Straight to work
After a quick pitstop at the hotel to get settled in and grab a little snack, it was time to head off to our training base for the first session of the week.
Tuchel and his staff put the players through their paces in the glorious evening Californian sun, with the focus being on stretching out the legs with some running exercises to start off the camp.
Familiar faces
There were some additional bodies teaming up with the squad ahead of training, with Thiago Silva, Emerson and Christian Pulisic all arriving having not flown with the team earlier in the day.
The trio caught up with their team-mates before putting on their running trainers and getting straight into the thick of the action!
After the light session ended, it was back onto the coach headed for the hotel where the players could retire to their rooms for some well-earned rest.
Stayed tuned on The 5th Stand app, the Chelsea website and our social media channels for more from our training camp in Los Angeles as we continue to follow the team every step of the way!
