With the 2023 summer transfer window coming to a close this week, we have all the information you need about deadline day in England and elsewhere around Europe and the rest of the world...
When does the transfer window close?
In England and Scotland, the transfer window shuts at 11pm on Friday 1 September.
When does the transfer window close in Spain, Italy, Germany and France?
All five major European leagues will close their transfer window on the same 1 September deadline, although not all at the same time.
The majority of countries share the same 11pm deadline. Clubs in Spain and France will need to register players by that time, with Italy due to close a little earlier at 7pm.
Germany continues its tradition of being the first of the major leagues to close its transfer window, with the Bundesliga requiring all deals to be completed by 5pm.
Which countries can still sign players after that date?
There are a handful of European countries who will allow new players to be registered later than England, most notably Belgium (6 September), Turkey (8 September) and Portugal (22 September).
The Saudi Arabia transfer deadline is 20 September.
When is the transfer deadline for Chelsea Women?
The transfer deadline for the Women's Super League is a fortnight later than the Premier League, on Thursday 14 September, meaning Chelsea Women have until the end of that date to sign new players.
What happens after that deadline?
If a transfer is agreed between two clubs late in the day, the Premier League grant some additional time for the relevant documentation to be completed and submitted.
A deal sheet can be sent to the authorities to indicate that a transfer agreement has been reached, after which the clubs are handed an additional two hours to complete the remaining paperwork.
What are the Premier League squad list rules?
The window’s closure means squad lists must be submitted. Premier League clubs may register 25 over-21 first-team players, of whom a minimum of eight should be homegrown.
In this instance, homegrown is defined as someone of any nationality who was 21 or older on 1 January 2023 and spent a total of three years registered to an English or Welsh club prior to the end of the season in which he turned 21.
Coaches can supplement the squad with any number of under-21 players (born on or after 1 January 2002) whatever their country of birth.
Who have Chelsea signed this summer?
The Blues have brought in Robert Sanchez, Djordje Petrovic, Axel Disasi, Lesley Ugochukwu, Moises Caicedo, Romeo Lavia, Nicholas Jackson, Christopher Nkunku, Diego Moreira, Angelo Gabriel and Deivid Washington.
Chelsea Women have added Hannah Hampton, Ashley Lawrence, Sjoeke Nusken, Catarina Macario and Mia Fishel to Emma Hayes' squad so far.
