The 2024 edition of the London Football Awards took place this evening, and there was plenty of Chelsea representation on display at the ceremony with three of our players winning awards.
From the men's side forward Cole Palmer claimed the Young Player of the Year title at a glitzy ceremony at the Roundhouse in Camden.
Palmer has proved an outstanding signing for the Blues since arriving at Stamford Bridge from Manchester City last summer, scoring 14 goals in all competitions for the club including 10 in the Premier League. Palmer also received his first senior international call-up since joining us, making his full England debut back in November.
The 21-year-old topped a five-player shortlist which also included; striker Ali Al-Hamadi (AFC Wimbledon
, now Ipswich Town), Tottenham pair Pape Matar Sarr and Destiny Udogie and AFC Wimbledon's Jack Currie.
Over in the Women's Player of the Year category, Chelsea dominated the shortlist with Guro Reiten, Niamh Charles and Lauren James all nominated. Katie McCabe of Arsenal and Martha Thomas of Tottenham were also up for the prize, but it was James who eventually scooped the gong.
The Chelsea forward is once again having an exceptional season for the WSL champions, straight off the back of her breakthrough major tournament with England at the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup.
James has scored 12 goals in 13 WSL games so far this season leading the club's goalscoring charts, with Chelsea still firmly in the hunt for four trophies this season. Lauren has previously enjoyed success at the London Football Awards, winning the Women's Young Player of the Year 12 months ago.
And James wasn't the only one of Emma Hayes' Blues to pick up a gong at the ceremony, with Aggie Beever-Jones winning the Young Player of the Year award.
Beever-Jones has had a breakthrough season at Kingsmeadow, hitting seven goals so far and picking up the Barclays November Player of the Month title earlier this term. This followed a run of scoring five goals in five matches after her debut strike against Brighton.
The 20-year-old striker beat off fierce competition from Arsenal's Kyra Cooney Cross and Tottenham's Grace Clinton to claim yet another title in what is proving to be an incredible year.
Hayes, who back in 2022 won a special award for Outstanding Contribution to London Football, was this time nominated for the Manager of the Year title, which was won by Ange Postecoglou.
Congratulations to all our award winners and nominees!
