Earlier this year, official Chelsea Football Club partner trivago supported the Chelsea Foundation and its female participants in the Goal Getters programme, promoting positive female role models under the theme of allyship.
The Foundation’s Goal Getters platform is a female-targeted programme delivered across secondary schools in the UK and aims to inspire and empower young women to set new goals, embed positive values and connect with other young females.
Two female senior executives from trivago gave their time to present to the participants as part of the Goal Getters programme with the aim of inspiring more women into tech roles and sharing their own experiences to help the girls define their sense of purpose and manage relationships effectively as they consider their own future careers.
As part of the programme, six schools and over 100 pupils were invited to a special event at Stamford Bridge in early March to celebrate International Women’s Day. Anja Honnefelder, chief people and legal officer at trivago, gave a virtual keynote speech at the event encouraging young females to chase their dreams. She described how setting individual goals has kept her driven and shared how her allies have supported her along the way.
Andrea Fernandez, data science lead at trivago, also gave insight during workshops into her journey through education and into work, discussing the importance of building allies and supporting other women. Andrea championed the young women to follow their dreams while aligning their skillset to match their goals.
One of the participants who felt empowered said: ‘Andrea showed me it’s not nerdy to be into maths and reading, but how I can use my skills and hobbies to create a career pathway for myself. She is so cool, and I would love to be like her when I’m older.’
Alfie Butwell, Education Officer at Chelsea Foundation, said: ‘Having a keynote from Anja really kickstarted our event and showcased a figure to the females who is not only an ally but a successful woman who they can all look up to.
‘The power of trivago’s support was key to showcase relatable women to our participants, so they can aspire to reach Anja’s and Andrea’s goals.’
'We’re passionate about empowering women in the workplace, particularly in tech, which is currently a male-dominated industry. Supporting the Chelsea Foundation’s efforts to shape and guide the next generation of young women has only fuelled this passion and we look forward to more fruitful and inspiring collaboration with them in the future,' said trivago.
