There are just under three weeks to go until this summer’s transfer deadline day, with the Blues already adding five players to our ranks this summer.

Three of these players made their Chelsea debuts in our opening day victory over Everton, with Raheem Sterling, Kalidou Koulibaly and Marc Cucurella all featuring.

When quizzed on whether he wants to add another central defender to his squad, Tuchel admitted it is one of the areas the club may look to strengthen in.

‘We could use one more central defender if you look at the numbers. At the moment, we play with a back three and the profiles of the guys in the current back three are different,’ Tuchel said in his press conference ahead of the visit of Spurs.

‘We play also with Azpilicueta, who is more of a full-back. With Marc Cucurella, it is also possible. So let’s see what happens.’

Another position that Tuchel said the Blues may enter the market for is the central striker spot.

‘We could strengthen our squad in depth in both areas [central defence and striker]. It is one thing to wish for it, another to see if it is possible. We are looking for top quality, personalities and characters that can compete on the highest level,’ he said.

‘We are calm and ambitious at the same time, and there are still some days to go until the end of the transfer period. Anything is possible until the end.’

Despite rumours about numerous incomings, the boss says Chelsea will not panic this summer, and sign players for the sake of it.

‘We will not panic and we will not try to sign players who we aren’t 100 per cent convinced by. All of our signings so far have helped us. It is a day-by-day business now, to coach the team and not lose your head as a coach about what could be.

‘We are ambitious and we work hard to maybe strengthen our squad further, but we’re calm. All the energy goes into the group that is here [at Cobham]. We still have time.’

Tuchel also issued a team news update, ruling two players out of Sunday's all-London clash.

Marcos Alonso was missing from the squad at Goodison Park last Saturday, and the boss has confirmed the left-back is not in his thinking for Sunday.

‘He [Alonso] is not in training at the moment and is trying to finalise his transfer. He will not be available for Sunday’s game,’ Tuchel said.

There has also been an injury to one of Tuchel’s central midfielders.

‘It is the same for Kovacic, who is injured unfortunately with his knee, there has been a reaction. We decided to take a step back, to increase treatment time to reduce the stress that comes from training to have a normal reaction before we start again. Everybody else is available.’
