Hassan Sulaiman looks ahead to Saturday's clash with Millwall in the Under-18 Premier League Cup, aiming to extend our winning streak in the competition, with supporters able to watch the match live for free on the official Chelsea website and app.
As the November international break draws to a close, Chelsea Under-18s shift focus back to club action in the Premier League Cup and an 11am kick-off at Millwall. The squad returns in good form after back-to-back victories in the league, first against west London rivals Fulham and then with an impressive performance away at Norwich City.
The team has been hard at work preparing at Cobham, with several players returning from international duty. Ollie Harrison, Landon Emenalo, Genesis Antwi, Leo Cardoso and Harry McGlinchey all represented their countries at Under-18s or Under-19s level over the last week, but have quickly turned their attention to Saturday's London derby cup tie.
'We’re on a long journey of development,' Sulaiman said, as he prepares his team to resume our Premier League Cup campaign at Millwall. 'The process has tested the players’ character, particularly during challenging moments.
'Our younger players have shown maturity and unity, which is crucial. We want them to approach the season as a team, not as individuals.
'The break allowed them to reflect on and analyse their performances. As coaches, we aim to guide the players through these moments, to help them build their skills and confidence.'
Chelsea’s Under-18s have started strongly in the Premier League Cup, winning both of our games at Cobham so far. We opened with a 3-2 victory over Stoke City and followed it with a dominant 4-1 win against Newcastle United.
Millwall, our next opponents on Saturday morning, have had a mixed campaign. The Lions drew 1-1 with Newcastle but secured a 3-2 win over Stoke City of their own, placing them two points behind us in second position in Group F as we approach the half-way mark.
'Our ambition for the Millwall game is clear - to win,' Sulaiman stated. 'But beyond that, we want to deliver a performance that showcases our style and strengths.
'We’ve been working on refining our patterns of play, building rhythm and making aggressive tactical decisions like breaking lines and pressing effectively.
'I want to see everything that we have been developing and progressing since the start of the season against Millwall, then the positive result should follow.
'I want to see passion and commitment from the players, which I’ve been seeing lately. As a coaching staff, our ultimate goal is to bring all these elements together in matches.
'While it won’t always be perfect, our focus is on steady progress, skill-building and team cohesion. Winning is important, but so is preparing the players for success beyond this season.'
